A Rainbow Over Hong Kong

In my humble opinion, November 27, 2014 will seal the end of the auction season marvelously for Magnificent Jewels for the year’s end for both Sotheby’s and Christie’s.

A magnificent array of Fancy color diamonds will be put up for auction that day. The auction will cover the entire spectrum of special colors, from popular yellow, to the rarer colors pinks and blues, to the “once in a lifetime” red and green.

Yellow

Lot 1996 is a pair of rings that can be worn separately but for its best result is meant to be worn together. A 3.01 ct Fancy Intense Yellow diamond and a 2.50 carat Fancy Orangey Pink diamond, both pear shaped, adorn these rings. Together, they have an estimated value between $250k and $380k.

Lot 1999, a 5.04 carat Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond, is a rare round shape that is estimated between $380k - $650k. Round brilliant shaped diamonds of fancy colors normally sell for a premium from other shapes due to the complexity and supposed loss of color that occurs from its cutting. Most polishers prefer staying away from this shape, so when it does occur it is rare indeed.

Lot 2002, is another rare round shape. The Fancy Intense Yellow diamond is an astonishing size of 28.22 carats, and this beautiful marvel is estimated at a price between $625k to $1 million.

Lot 2003 is a pair of round shaped Fancy Yellow diamonds. At 20.35 carat and 20.03 carats, the pair is estimated to sell between $1.15 million and $1.9 million.

Lot 2005, a gorgeous 20.82 carats Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond, is estimated to sell between $1.6 million to $2.3 million.

Lot 2097, a rare 52.26 carat Fancy Intense Yellow diamond displayed on a beautiful necklace, is estimated to sell between $1.5 million and $2.25 million.

Pink

Lot 2096 is a pear shaped Light Pink diamond, standing out at a large 5.79 carats and estimated to sell at a price between $300k to $440k.

Lot 2101, a 5.42 carat Fancy Pink Pear Shaped diamond has an astounding Internally Flawless clarity. It is estimated to sell between $800k to $1.2 million.

Lot 2094, is a very special pair of earrings. It is rarely seen that an Argyle tender stone is put up for auction. In this case, the pair is a 1.22 carat round Fancy Intense Pink, happens to be lot #49 from the 2013 argyle tender, with a sister stone, also round, a 1.05 Fancy Intense Purplish Pink. This pair is estimated to sell for between $500k and $800k.

Grey

Lot 2091 is a one of a kind stone, a 4.37 carat Fancy Dark Greenish Grey diamond, mounted on a beautiful ring, estimated at $100k to $150k.

Green

Lot 2098 is a one of a kind Fancy Intense Bluish Green. A 2.01 carat diamond, it is estimated to sell at a price between $380k and $650k.

Lot 2099, another beautiful Fancy Intense Yellowish Green, weighs in at 3.75 carats and is estimated to sell between $350k and $480k.

Lot 2100, a rare matching pair with a rare size and rare color makes this lot a very special one. A 5.64 carat Fancy Intense Green, with a 5.18 carat Fancy Intense Yellowish Green. Surrounded by pink diamonds, it is estimated to sell for between $3 million and $5 million.

Blue

Lot 2092, is a perfect 0.85 carats Fancy Intense Blue marquise shaped diamond, surrounded by a group of pinks, and is estimated to sell at a price between $80k and $120k.

Lot 2102, is a one of a kind 3.39 carats Fancy Vivid Blue Internally Flawless diamond. This perfect stone is offered only by the best of jewelers, Moussaieff! The modest selling price estimate is between $4.5 million and $6.5 million.

Red

The star of the evening is also the finale, an extremely rare color and shape. A 2.09 carat Fancy Red heart shaped diamond will steal the hearts of all those present. We can see how this diamond has a beautiful deep red to it, similar to ox blood red, which also happens to be one of the sought after colors for the fall season. It is estimated to sell between $3.5 million and $4.8 million. Most people won’t remember this diamond, but it is lot #49 in the argyle tender from 1992.

I look forward to the results of the auction and seeing how people will value these diamonds! What do you think will happen?
