Sotheby’s Magical World of Color

Colorless jewelry may attract attention with their sparkle and their shine, but colored diamonds and gemstones demand your attention with their rainbow of rich and enticing colors.

Some Rare Fancy Colored Diamonds - Yellow, Blue, Pink, and Red

Some of the most amazing rare fancy colored diamonds

A grand selection of some of the finest colored jewels will be on display at Sotheby’s Hong Kong including extremely rare blue, pink, and yellow diamonds along with sapphires, rubies, and emeralds.

The show will take place on April 3rd,  2012 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.  All of the jewelry that will be displayed comes to a presale estimate of $75 million to $92 million. Though many different beautiful and rare stones will be showcased, some of the blue colored diamonds are sure to grab some attention. For example, the 8.01-carat VVS1 grade emerald-cut fancy vivid blue diamond and the 5.00-carat pear-shaped double rose-cut fancy vivid blue diamond ring that combines pink and white diamonds. The former is said to fetch somewhere between $11.5 million and $14 million.  The latter is believed to receive between $4 million and $4.5 million. Hong Kong has not seen such a large blue diamond as the 8.01-carat stone in years.

Other colors to be seen in Hong Kong this April are green, red, and pink, shown off by stunning emerald, jadeite, ruby, and pink diamond jewelry.  Some of these pieces include a pair of emerald and diamond pendant earrings, a jadeite and diamond pendant necklace, a ruby and diamond necklace, and two pink diamond rings.

Sotheby’s will be showing a delightful pair of emerald and diamond earrings for spring.  The pair of pendant earrings boasts 10.28-carat and 10.9-carat step-cut Colombian emeralds and diamonds.  A unique jadeite “Laughing Budha” and diamond pendant necklace will be auctioned off at the Sotheby show in Hong Kong. It is estimated that the pendant will receive $1.9 million to $2.3 million. There are earrings and a ring that match the pendant, which will also rake in quite a sum.

Twenty-three natural unheated Burmese rubies are displayed on a necklace together with diamonds.  The necklace has a total of 83 carats of precious gemstones, which may fetch as much as $5.2 million.  There is also a ruby and diamond ring, and matching earrings to compliment the necklace.

Two significant pink diamond rings will be showcased at the show as well.  The first is a 5.03-carat, fancy vivid pink, pear-shaped diamond ring that might sell for $6.7 million.  The other ring also features a pear-shaped fancy vivid pink diamond.  This one is 3.28-carats and is internally flawless. The stone is estimated to bring in between $2.8 million and $3.6 million.

In addition to these unusual colored diamond and precious jewelry items mentioned, there are also other fabulous jewelry pieces that include pearls, sapphires and other gorgeous stones. The Sotheby’s show in Hong Kong has much to present.  One thing is for certain; there won’t be a lack of color.
