Lily Safra Jewelry to Be Auctioned for Charity

On May 14th, jewelry enthusiasts will have the opportunity to place bids on items belonging to the exquisite jewelry collection of famed philanthropist Lily Safra. Safra, wife of the late Edmond J. Safra, founder of the Edmond J. Safra Philanthropic Foundation, has chaired the organization since 2000 and is known as a prominent philanthropist worldwide.

Christies will be hosting the show at the Four Seasons Hotel in Geneva. There will be 70 lots on display and all of the proceeds will go to various charities.  The highlight of the sale will be the selection of JAR jewelry, which Safra had designed exclusively for her by the designer, between the 1980s and the 2000s. This makes the Safra collection the largest private JAR collection to be auctioned. Safras assorted jewelry includes diamonds, rubies, sapphires, as well as antique and period jewelry.

It is quite unusual for such an extensive collection belonging to a symbolic figure to be auctioned off at once.  The collection is impressive, unique, and valuable. Safra has done an incredible amount of fundraising for charities as well as work for non-profit organizations.  Many institutions, including those that benefit the poor, the sick, and the disabled in many countries across the world, have enjoyed the generosity of Ms. Safra.  The proceeds of this sale, believed to exceed $20 million, will help support twenty charities in an astounding way. Some of these charitable institutions include the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village, Rwanda, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the Hopes and Homes for Children, Romania, along with other important charities.
