Christie’s New York Important Jewels Sale Auctions off Colored Diamonds


One of the best ways to acquire an important, valuable, or unusual colored diamond is through an auction. Colored diamonds continue to be taking the auction world by storm, especially yellow diamonds which recently sold for surprising prices at Christie’s Important Jewels Sale at the Rockefeller Plaza, New York, this past June. Among the colored diamond jewelry sold was a 1.52 carat, Fancy Intense Yellow-Green diamond ring estimated for $12,000 to $18,000 but sold for a whopping $35,000! Here is a detailed list of the stunning colored stones that sold at auction.


David Webb Colored Diamond Ring:

The colored diamond ring by David Webb displays bombé design and is set with a round-cornered, modified, rectangular-cut, fancy vivid yellow diamond, which weighs approximately 39.83 carats. The diamond is set in 18K gold and is signed by David Webb. The stone is certified by the GIA, which states that it is fancy vivid yellow, has natural color, and features VS1 clarity. This gem of a ring sold for $1,426,500 despite the $1,200,000 to $1,800,000 estimate.


6.54-Carat Fancy Yellow Diamond Ring:

The Fancy yellow diamond, weighing approximately 6.54 carats, is flanked on both sides by trillion-cut diamonds and is set upon a gold and platinum ring. The diamond boasts VS1 clarity, displays natural color, and has been certified by the GIA as being fancy yellow. The yellow beauty sold for $86,500, more than its estimate of $60,000 to $80,000.


Fancy Intense Yellow-Green Diamond Ring:

The unique colored square-cut 1.52-carat diamond is mounted in platinum and features a fancy intense yellow-green color. The cut-cornered modified stone was estimated at a mere $12,000 to $18,000 but sold for a surprising $35,000.


Colored Diamond Ear Pendants:

Each one of these diamond earrings is set with a square-cut fancy intense yellow diamond weighing approximately 2.27 carats and 2.25 carats. The diamonds are set into the circular-cut diamond surround and French wire and are mounted in platinum and 18K gold.  The diamonds, both certified by the GIA, are internally flawless, natural in color, have VS1 clarity, and are fancy intense yellow. The pair was estimated at $30,000 to $50,000 but sold for the price of $52,500.


8.56-Carat Fancy Yellow Diamond Ring:

The ring features a cut cornered modified rectangular-cut fancy yellow diamond, which weighs approximately 8.56 carats.  The diamond is mounted in platinum and 18K gold and is flanked on either side by a trapeze-cut diamond. The GIA states that the diamond is fancy yellow, has natural color, VVS1 clarity, and is potentially internally flawless.


9.39-Carat Fancy Deep Yellow Diamond Ring:

The modified, cushion-cut fancy deep yellow diamond is set in the circular-cut diamond surround and pavé-set diamond shoulders. Mounted in platinum, the 9.39-carat stone is GIA certified as fancy deep yellow with natural color and VS1 clarity. The ring was estimated at $100,000 to $150,000 yet sold for only $146,500.


17.57-Carat Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond Ring:

The 17.57-carat circular-cut fancy intense yellow stone if flanked on either side by a pear-shaped diamond, and is mounted in gold and platinum. The GIA states that the diamond is fancy intense yellow, natural color, and boasts VS1 clarity. Estimated at $500,000 to $700,000 the beautiful ring sold for an impressive $578,500.


8.04-Carat Square-Cut Fancy yellow Diamond Ring:

This ring is set with a cut-cornered, modified, square-cut fancy yellow diamond, weighing approximately 8.04 carats and is set within a circular-cut diamond bifurcated surround. The gem is mounted in 18k gold and is certified by the GIA.  The diamond is stated as being fancy yellow, displaying natural color and SI1 clarity. This ring was given the estimate of $70,000 to $100,000 but only managed to sell for $92,500.


 

Time and time again natural fancy color diamonds prove their strength in today’s market. Although this auction held mostly diamond rings, all the colored jewels here are all breathtakingly beautiful and sold for respectable sums.
