Julien MacDonald Had a Gown…

So it seems that Julien has taken a giant step up from the sequined gowns in which he dresses his good friends, Millie Mackintosh and Abbey Clancy; as evidenced by the design of the show-stopping and show closing dress in his recent fashion show held at the Royal Opera House during London Fashion Week.

It is traditional for designers to conclude their fashion shows with a model dressed in a bridal gown, and the Welsh-born designer and Strictly Come Dancing star definitely didn't disappoint, unveiling a diamond encrusted wedding dress valued north of $6.5 million.

The gown was well and truly the highlight of his show, which also featured figure-hugging, dropped hemline shift dresses in duck egg blue, yellow, off white, and moss green, duck egg blue and off white. The gown drew gasps and appreciative applause.

MacDonald said: "It's covered with real diamonds and freshwater pearls.” According to the designer, the gown was inspired by a mermaid that “lures a very handsome man.”

And for further insight into the designer's mindset and inspiration:

"My bride is a mermaid that swims in the sea, covered in treasure. She takes the buried treasure and translates it into her dream ethereal wedding dress - diamonds, pearls, expense, lace, glamour.”

Given this vision, you probably cannot argue with MacDonald’s next statement that, "It's the most important day of a woman's life and why not have the most expensive dress in the world?" Though it seems MacDonald is not the only designer with this vision. It wasn't too long ago that we saw a Fairytale Wedding Dress revealed in Tokyo worth $446,000!

Since this was the first time MacDonald had concluded one of his shows with a bridal gown, he sure is going to have a tough act to follow should he choose to do so again.
