The well-known Christie’s auction house holds sales in locations around the world. Their upcoming London Sale of Important Jewels is extremely fitting given we are amidst Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The sale, set to take place on June 13th, will display jewels that have belonged to royalty and aristocrats over the past four centuries. There will be 368 lots among which pieces from the collection of Beatrice, Countess of Granard OBE, the late Countess of Dudley, and Princess Soraya Esfandiary Bakhtiary will be showcased. The jewelry pieces include diamonds, pearls, and rings that are rare and historic, some of which are signed by leading designers such as Cartier, Graff, Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron, Chopard, and Chaumet.
Although the sale will have many highlights, there are several that stand out from the rest. An Art Deco diamond tiara, constructed of five shield-shaped diamond clip brooches upon a simple diamond line frame, along with the Cowdray Pearls, a pearl necklace consisting of 38 rare graduated natural grey pearls from the late Viscountess Cowdray Lady Pearson, are believed to be the main focus of the sale. The former item is estimated at $156,850 to $235,270 whereas the latter has an estimated price of $440,000 to $549,000.
In addition to these royal and historic items, there will be 40 lots from Cartier, which will showcase a variety of jewels such as bracelets, earrings, cufflinks, clocks, and watches. One of these items is an Art Deco oriental-inspired diamond and gem bracelet, dating back to 1925, worth approximately $156,850 to $$235,270. A second Cartier item worthy of being noted is a pair of diamond and platinum pendant earrings. The earrings boast three brilliant-cut diamonds, from which a pear-shaped diamond is suspended.
A 12.5-carat circular single-stone ring estimated at $110,000 to $156,850 is one of the jewelry items from the collection of Princess Soraya Esfandiary Bakhtiary. A sapphire and diamond ring from 1905, which once belonged to Beatrice, Countess of Granard OBE, will also be for sale. It has an estimated price of $47,000 to $63,000.
Royal jewels are every collector’s dream. Auctions such as this upcoming London sale are the perfect opportunity to purchase a symbolic and valuable item. Rare gems and jewels of all sorts, including Pink, Yellow, and Blue diamonds, rubies, and sapphires with fascinating backgrounds will be obtainable for those with a budget at this upcoming unique event.
